- This post contains rumors for Episode VII and therefore may contain SPOILERS!
There's been a few rumors in the past about how there might be some sort of superweapon in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Star Wars Fanpedia has learned that these rumors may well be true.
From what we've heard, this weapon, whatever it may be, is likely organic in nature, and may coincide with the whereabouts of a character who is missing, a character that the new generation of heroes—Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isacc)—set out to find. With the help of Han Solo and Princess Leia, of course.
Past rumors about Luke's whereabouts have included him being in captivity, as well as being in seclusion because he has become very powerful and he fears what his powers could do to those around him and to the galaxy. From what we've learned, both of these rumors are true. From a certain point of view.
It appears that this super weapon is a naturally-occurring, planet-based weapon, and Luke is being held nearby. He and his captors, whoever they are, know that if Luke uses his uber-Jedi abilities, the weapon will be triggered—potentially destroying an entire star system. And so Luke has remained there for all these years, not using his powers and cutting himself off from his friends and family.
How this situation with the weapon resolves itself remains to be seen. Perhaps we'll have to wait another 372 days for that one.
But who are these villains? We're not quite sure of all the details yet, but check back soon and we'll have a bit more information about them.
