The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Lucasfilm will soon be making additional casting announcements, following up on today's announcement that the stars of the original trilogy would be returning, along with a host of new younger talent. THR reports that one of these casting announcements will be a female lead, which follows some mixed reaction today about how only one of the new actors—Daisy Ridley—is a woman.

Previous reports by THR and other outlets have said that the film was potentially seeking a mixed-race actress in her late 20s. It is known that Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) met with J.J. Abrams. Rumors have also swirled around Maisie Richardson-Sellers, a relatively unknown British actress. A few months ago, rumors indicated that a black actress could be cast as either the daughter or granddaughter of legendary Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is also rumored to be appearing as a ghost.
