By now, you've probably seen photos of Star Wars Episode VII filming in Greenham in the United Kingdom. The biggest news we've gotten out of that so far is photos of the Millennium Falcon and a few X-wings, including a black one—which I will definitely be buying the toy of when it comes out. And so will you, so don't lie!
An intrepid fan named Rick Lawrence climbed a tree near the location shoot and was able to take a few photos, including some sort of ground-based vehicle and someone in a Rebel flight uniform. A number of the photos have been taken off of his Facebook page, where he posted them, after the photos were reported, but MakingStarWars.Net has the photos. These may contain spoilers, so be careful!
One thing I am continually struck by in these Episode VII photos is how real everything is. There's not a green screen to be seen in these photos. While the film will of course include green screen, it's a refreshing change from the prequel trilogy. Sure, the prequels did have its share of real locations, particularly in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, but did you know that Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith did not have any location shooting with actors? It was all done in a set. It's certainly debatable about whether that hurt the final product, but I for one am looking forward to the more grounded look that Episode VII appears to be giving us.
