Ever since The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm last year and announced its intention to make more Star Wars movies, some fans have been concerned about "Disneyfication" – that is to say, making Star Wars "cute" and for kids like the Disney animated movies a lot of us grew up with. If you're one of the fans who was concerned about seeing Mickey Mouse in Star Wars Episode VII, director J.J. Abrams wants to assure you that this is not the case. Speaking on The Tavis Smiley Show, Abrams said:

"The beauty there is Disney doesn’t want that. They are well aware of this and they are very careful to make sure that...they are sensitive to that. They don’t want that at all, that's the last thing they want. But that company, which is Marvel, they have…it’s incredible the scale of that company. They are as aware of that as anyone. Back to your other question though, I think there may be a lot of Trekkies that would be thrilled if I abandoned them."

Now what about my thoughts? To me, this isn't surprising. I've seen some Star Wars fans treat the Disney acquisition like it's the end of the world, like Star Wars is going to be ruined. The way I see it, though, the prequel trilogy was not a good set of movies, and these concerns about Disney adding "cuteness" to Star Wars is something that George Lucas actually did (need I remind you that Jar Jar Binks literally stepped in poop?). Disney, on the other hand, has shown that they're more than just The Little Mermaid and Mickey Mouse. The same concerns were seen when Disney bought Marvel, and then we got The Avengers. Disney knows how to respect their acquired properties, and I've always thought that Star Wars is in safe hands with them.
