Bleeding Cool is [http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/06/19/scoop-star-wars-episode-seven-character-details/ reporting] that they have obtained exclusive casting and character details for ''[[Star Wars Episode VII]]''. According to Bleeding Cool, they have "100% confirmed that the following is accurate and that the open casting started today in the UK."

Before I show you the character details, I want to stress that '''this should be considered a rumor''' until it is officially confirmed. It has not been confirmed by ''Star Wars'' Fanpedia or any other outlet. We do not know who Bleeding Cool's sources are or how those sources obtained this information.

Here is the character breakdown from Bleeding Cool:

:''Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humour, fit.''

:''Young twenty-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.''

:''A late twentysomething male, fit, handsome and confident.''

:''Seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour. Also doesn’ t need to be particularly fit.''

:''A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.''

:''Forty something male, fit, military type.''

:''Thirtysomething male, intellectual. Apparently doesn’t need to be fit.''

I don't know if this is true or not, but it's certainly possible. Casting details like this are meant to be vague so as to not reveal too much information. It's also important to note that [[J.J. Abrams]] is notoriously secretive to the point of not telling actors who they are auditioning for. So, even if this is an actual casting breakdown, these concepts may not be finalized or even anything close to actual character details. It's also not an obvious fake like [[User blog:Brandon Rhea/Today's Episode VII Casting Breakdown is an Obvious Fake|last week's Jacen and Jaina Solo casting breakdown]].

With the acquisition of Lucasfilm and the massive ''[[Star Wars]]'' merchandising operation that comes with it, The Walt Disney Company is poised for even more merchandising growth with their Disney Consumer Products division, BusinessWire [http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20130618006829/en/Disney-Consumer-Products-Poised-Incremental-Retail-Sales reports]. Lucasfilm's licensing operations were officially announced as being part of Disney's portfolio at the Licensing Expo 2013, a trade show all about consumer licensing. The acquisition has already helped lead to strong growth for The Walt Disney Company.

''Star Wars'' will become a natural fit in a portfolio that "includes the iconic Mickey Mouse, the mega boys franchise ''Marvel's Avengers'' and top film franchise Star Wars," making it "critical that we continue to focus on the consumer" and create a strategy that allows them to market it appropriately, so says Josh Silverman, executive vice president, Global Licensing, Disney Consumer Products.

Speaking for Lucasfilm, Executive Vice-President, Lucasfilm franchise Howard Roffman said:

:"We're excited to be part of The Walt Disney Company and to be able to marshal all the resources we've never dreamt of before. There's only one place where it made sense for ''Star Wars'' to reside and that is Disney, it is the only entertainment company that understands long term: long term brand affinity and franchise planning, plus the power of storytelling and compelling characters – this is what our fans expect from ''Star Wars''."

The interesting thing about Disney's approach to ''Star Wars'' is that they want to widen its appeal. They recognize that ''Star Wars'' particularly appeals to boys, but they also want to bring more girls into the fandom. Personally, ever since the new movies were announced, I've thought that the main character should be a female lead. ''Star Wars'' has had strong female characters like Leia, and even Padme, but even then they fit the Princess and Queen roles. A kickass heroine could be great for ''Star Wars'', great for young girls to see, and would certainly help with the marketability of the franchise.

That's not all that's good for marketing. With the [[sequel trilogy]], [[spinoff films]], ''[[Star Wars Rebels]]'', [[Star Wars video games|video games]], and more, ''Star Wars'' is going to have brand new merchandising opportunities that will allow fans to purchase more toys and collectables, and help Disney continue to position itself as the world's largest licensor.

In first place is the rumored film about Jedi Master Yoda, with 42.85%. In second place is the rumored film about everybody's favorite smuggler, Han Solo, with 27.47%. As you can expect after those first two, in third place was the fearsome bounty hunter Boba Fett, with 24.18%.

The future of [[Star Wars video games|''Star Wars'' video games]] is wide open. With at least three new ''[[Star Wars]]'' movies and more [[spinoff films]] to come, there are any number of directions that the gaming franchise can go. It sounds like Electronic Arts knows that too, and they're not planning to let their license with Lucasfilm and Disney go to waste.

EA Labels President Frank Gibeau [http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/18/star-wars-battlefront-ea-on-why-dice-is-a-perfect-fit spoke to IGN] after last week's E3 conference, where he said that the company's "experience with ''Battlefield'' gives them a unique set of skills perfectly attuned to taking on ''Star Wars''"—particularly the new ''[[Star Wars: Battlefront]]''. Gibeau said:

:"''Battlefront'' is a vehicle experience, it's a character experience. [''Battlefront'' developer] DICE has proven, in how they develop ''Battlefield'', as far as being able to do air, land, sea combat, all the way up to F-18s fighting."

Gibeau believes that the Frostbite engine ''Battlefront'' will play on will allow for that to happen so "they can create these huge, epic set-piece wars." After all, that's what ''Battlefront'' is all about. The example Gibeau gave was the Battle of Hoth, which appeared in the game's [[:File:Star Wars Battlefront Trailer|teaser trailer]]. With Hoth, "you've got space, you've got the surface, you've got infantry, you've got AT-ATs." DICE, Gibeau says, is "really good" at that sort of thing.

We want to try new things." Even so, that doesn't mean they're going to re-invent the wheel completely. As Gibeau said, it's all about "capturing that epic, ''Star Wars'', all-out huge scale."

But what about the future? ''Star Wars: Battlefront'' isn't the only thing the company has in store. EA plans to use this new opportunity to the fullest, including tying them in to the [[sequel trilogy]] and other new films:

:"We signed a long-term deal so that we could really invest. This isn’t just a one-off. We want to create experiences that operate in the ''Star Wars'' universe, not just mimicking the movies. It’ll be complementing the movies... That’s our first assumption. The second assumption is that we think we can tell ''Star Wars'' stories in multiple genres. We’re going to look at multiple genres in multiple ways -- to tell stories from a character point of view, from an epic all-out vehicle war point of view. It’s a very versatile place to go."

After accepting the Daytime Emmy Award for ''Star Wars: The Clone Wars'', [[George Lucas]] headed backstage where [[User blog:Brandon Rhea/George Lucas and Dave Filoni React to Emmy Win|he talked to Access Hollywood]] about the Emmy win. While he was there, Access Hollywood was sure to ask him what he thinks about no longer being involved in ''[[Star Wars]]'' and passing the torch to a new team for ''[[Star Wars Episode VII]]'' and beyond.

Lucas, who seems to be enjoying his retirement from Lucasfilm, said that "it's great" to see a new generation of filmmakers take over his legendary franchise. He jokingly pointed towards ''The Clone Wars'' producers and said "I don't have to worry about these guys anymore," now that [[Kathleen Kennedy]] is President of Lucasfilm.

But what of [[J.J. Abrams]]? Lucas has [[User blog:Brandon Rhea/George Lucas is "Excited" for New Star Wars|previously said]] that he is confident in Abrams as director of ''Episode VII'', but have the two directors spoken yet? Lucas said:

:"I have not spoken to J.J. He's been busy with ''Star Trek'' and I'm sure that he'll let me know when he's got some questions. So, you know, that's all going well. Kathy tells me it's working out great."

I have to imagine that there was some trepidation on Lucas' part, given that he has always been the one in control of ''Star Wars'', so it's nice to see that he is happy with the way things are turning out.

This past weekend, ''Star Wars: The Clone Wars'' [[User blog:Brandon Rhea/"The Clone Wars" Wins 2 Daytime Emmy Awards|won a Daytime Emmy]] for Outstanding Special Animated Program. After the awards ceremony, Access Hollywood caught up with [[George Lucas]] and [[Dave Filoni]] to talk to them about the show's Emmy win. Lucas himself said that getting the Daytime Emmy was great—"We'll take any award!"—and joked that he had to retire to start winning awards. Last year, Lucas won a NAACP award for his film ''Red Tails''.

The night's events weren't just about receiving the award, but also a reunion of sorts. The Emmy was presented to ''The Clone Wars'' team by [[Carrie Fisher]], who played Princess Leia Organa in the original ''[[Star Wars]]'' trilogy, and Lucas had fun getting the award from her. He said that "once we saw her up there, we pretty much knew that we'd won." The Academy wasn't going to bring out Princess Leia to present the award to something other than ''Star Wars'', that's for sure.

Getting the Emmy for ''The Clone Wars'' was rewarding for Lucas, who started in animation. It was one of the first things he did in film school. He has produced animated media such as the ''Star Wars'' television shows ''Star Wars: Droids'' and ''Star Wars: Ewoks'', and he was an executive producer of ''The Land Before Time''. Pixar Animation Studios was also originally founded as part of Lucasfilm. Lucas explained what the award means to him, saying:

:"We broke a lot of barriers on this show and did something that nobody had ever tried to do. Finally we got recognized for it. Going to CG was not well accepted in the film industry."

When it was time for Dave Filoni to speak, he had nothing but praise for Lucas. Filoni, the supervising director of ''The Clone Wars'' and an executive producer on the forthcoming ''[[Star Wars Rebels]]'', said of his former boss:

:"He's easily the best teacher you could ask for. If you're going to be in this industry and studying film... That's the way I think our whole production looked at it, that we were learning from a real master. He told me once that this is going to be the best master class you're ever going to get. I think that made all the difference for us. We had to learn from season 1 to now, so much so that I think George is comfortable with us stepping out and now the universe is under different control. I answer to Kathy now."

In response, Lucas joked, "I didn't say it would be the best, I said this would be the most painful master class you'd ever taken."

Neill Blomkamp, the director of ''District 9'' and this year's ''Elysium'', recently [http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/12/district-9-director-discusses-star-wars-and-district-10 chatted] with IGN about his new film. The topic of course turned to ''[[Star Wars]]'', however, with Blomkamp's name being mentioned as a possible director for a future installment of the saga. Even though many of his fans would like to see him direct a ''Star Wars'' film, Blomkamp himself isn't as enthusiastic about directing one:

:"No. I don’t think [I would direct ''Star Wars'']. I love ''Star Wars''. I really, really love ''Star Wars''. But I'm not the right guy. And also, just taking ideas that already exist in Hollywood is just not for me."

''[[Star Wars]]'' has always been an action adventure series at its core, but it also had heart. Whether it was Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, or Princess Leia and Han Solo, ''Star Wars'' has always had love stories. It's no surprise, then, to hear [[J.J. Abrams]] tell the French newspaper ''Metro News'' ([http://www.virginmedia.com/movies/news/story/2013/06/15/j-j-abrams-wanted-michael/ as reported by Virgin Media]) that ''[[Star Wars Episode VII]]'' will have a love story as well.

"No doubt," Abrams said of a love story, "even if I already know I want to approach this project in a different way ... We're only in the initial stages [of making the film] and it's difficult to talk about it other than to say it's very exciting."

One of the people responsible for making it so exciting is [[Michael Arndt]], who had been hired as the screenwriter for ''Episode VII'' months before Abrams came on board. Abrams himself was enthusiastic about working with the ''Toy Story 3'' and ''Little Miss Sunshine'' writer:

:"It's funny because I have admired the screenwriter Michael Arndt since ''Little Miss Sunshine''. And these last few months I've been suggesting he work with me and he kept saying, 'I can't, I'm already working on something'. And then one morning I read that he was doing ''Star Wars'' and I finally got it."

Good things come to those who wait. ''Star Wars: The Clone Wars'', the animated series produced by [[George Lucas]] which just ended its five-season run in March, has taken home two Daytime Emmy Awards. This is Lucas' first Emmy Award as well.

The ''[[Star Wars]]'' series won Outstanding Special Animated Program, an award that was presented by none other than Princess Leia herself, [[Carrie Fisher]]—so you might imagine that the winner was pretty clear once she stepped out on stage. On hand to accept the award were Lucas and supervising director [[Dave Filoni]], as well as other members of the production team. Accepting the award, Lucas said that he'd first like to thank the Academy for including animation in the first place, joking that animators have "pulled ourselves up from the outer reaches of television."

Lucas went on to say that "This is especially important to me... This is my first Emmy, the second award I've ever won." He went on to thank Filoni and the other producers, writers, actors, and everyone else involved with the series. Ultimately, he said "we're very, very happy."

That's not the only Daytime Emmy that ''The Clone Wars'' won, though. David Tennant, best known for his role as the Tenth Doctor in ''Doctor Who'', won Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for his appearances as the droid Huyang in the show.

The Presidio Trust will hold a public hearing Monday evening (6/17) on the proposed Lucas Cultural Arts Museum in San Francisco. Representatives of the initiative will be on hand to present their proposal, and the public are encouraged to share their comments on the possiblities for the former Commissary site at the Presidio's Crissy Field.

Lucas' vision for the site is a one-of-a-kind museum of illustrative and visual arts. As you might imagine, imagery from Star War is promimently featured in the proposal, as is work by fellow Bay Area studio, Pixar. The museum would house other film-related works, as well as comic art, children's illustrations, and paintings by the likes of Normal Rockwell, and Maxfield Parrish.

In addition to the Lucas proposal, two other remaining finalists will be presenting in Monday's meeting: [http://www.presidio.gov/about/Documents/2_Chora-WRNS.pdf The Bridge] , a sustainability institute, is proposed by the Chora Group and WRNS; and the [http://www.presidio.gov/about/Documents/6_GGNPC.pdf Presidio Exchange] , a multi-function public space, pitched by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.
