Fictional information

"Always a survivor, never a victim, she remains hopeful that she can move away from this harsh existence to a better life."
―Character breakdown for "Rachel"[src]

"Rachel", assumed to be a codename, is the name given to a lead character listed in the casting breakdowns for Star Wars Episode VII. She is described as being an orphan between the ages of 17 and 18, and someone with a heroic and hopeful attitude. It is likely, however, that the details are not entirely accurate to whoever the film character ends up being, but rather meant to embody the spirit of the character. Open casting auditions for the character were held in the fall of 2013, in both the United States and United Kingdom on Cast It Talent.

Character breakdownEdit

The following information is a casting breakdown, and likely does not reflect the final version of the film's character.

"Rachel" is described as a seventeen year old orphan, who lost her parents at a young age. She has no other family, so she was forced to make her way through life on her own. She grew into a street smart and strong individual, able to take care of herself with her strengths, and a bit of humor and courage. Despite her situation, she sees herself as a survivor, not a victim, and hopes that the future holds something better.[1]

Throughout the month of November 2013, The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm held open auditions for the character of "Rachel," as well as a male lead called "Thomas." They type of actress they courted was a young woman over the age of 16 who is "beautiful, smart and athletic," as well as of any ethnicity.[1] The in-person auditions were held throughout the United States and the United Kingdom,[2] and prospective actors could also submit video auditions via an open casting website.[3] The auditions attracted thousands of people hoping to get a role in Episode VII, as well as considerable press attention. For example, The Telegraph reported that auditions in Bristol attracted thousands of people, where some hopefuls waited nearly 24 hours in line.[4]
