"Someone has to save our skins!"
―Princess Leia takes charge of the Death Star escape[src]

Princess Leia Organa (portrayed by Carrie Fisher) is a protagonist in the original trilogy. She first appeared in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and returned for the rest of the trilogy, with an infant version of the character appearing in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Leia will be returning for Star Wars Episode VII.

Fictionally, Leia is the daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, and the twin sister of Luke Skywalker. She was born shortly after her father became Darth Vader and her mother died, leading her to be raised on Alderaan by Senator Bail Organa. Leia became a young Imperial Senator and a leader in the Rebel Alliance, and she was tasked with delivering the Death Star plans to the Rebellion. After the Death Star was destroyed, she continued to serve the Rebels alongside Luke and Han Solo, the latter of whom she fell in love with. She fought in the Battle of Endor, helping destroy the second Death Star and defeat the Galactic Empire.

Rumored involvement in upcoming filmsEdit

Star Wars Episode VIIEdit

The return of Princess Leia for a potential sequel trilogy has been rumored since the late 1970s, when George Lucas first spoke about Star Wars being comprised of nine films.[1] Once the trilogy was officially announced on October 30, 2012, much of the media speculation surrounding the films centered on the potential return of Princess Leia, as well as Han Solo and Luke SkywalkerMark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, has himself acknowledged that he and the other actors have been in talks with The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm about returning.[2] According to George Lucas, the studio is negotiating with the actors, and he believes Princess Leia will return.[3]

Throughout the years, many plot points have been suggested for the sequels, with most suggestions coming from Lucas himself. Though details about Princess Leia's role were scarce, TIME reported in 1983 that Leia would return in her 60s.[1] It is also known that the script for Episode VII is based on an original story treatment written by Lucas, and not an adaptation of any existing Expanded Universe story.[4]
