- ―Mon Mothma, on the plan to attack the second Death Star[src]
Mon Mothma (most famously portrayed by Caroline Blakiston) was a supporting character introduced in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi as one of the leaders of the Rebel Alliance. A younger version of the character was included in scenes for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, but those scenes were cut from the film and only available on home media releases. The younger version also appeared in animated form for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Despite her brief appearance in Return of the Jedi, Mon Mothma has remained a popular character and appeared in a multitude of Expanded Universe stories.
Chronologically, Mon Mothma is introduced as a Galactic Republic Senator who often sides with the peaceful policies proposed by Senators Padmé Amidala and Bail Organa during the Clone Wars. Towards the end of the war, the group of senators joined together to oppose the increasingly dictatorial measures being taken by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, but their efforts failed and Palpatine reformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire. Mon Mothma became a leading member of the Rebel Alliance that was created to oppose Palpatine's rule, and spoke at the briefing for the Battle of Endor.
Rumored involvement in Episode VIIEdit
On January 18, 2014, Elmayimbe of Latino Review tweeted that a "nominee currently on the awards circuit... is up for a major role in STAR WARS EPISODE VII." On that same day's episode of the Full of Sith podcast, Bobby Roberts reported the rumor saying that the actor would be Dame Judi Dench and that she would be playing Mon Mothma.
