Lawrence Kasdan is an American film screenwriter, producer, and director best known as the co-writer of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, as well as Raiders of the Lost Ark.
In early 2013, it was announced that Kasdan was returning to the Star Wars franchise to write one of the spinoff films. In October 2013, it was announced that he would be co-writing the Star Wars Episode VII script with director J.J. Abrams, replacing Michael Arndt.
Involvement in upcoming projectsEdit
On February 5, 2013, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Lawrence Kasdan would be returning to the Star Wars franchise to write one of the spinoff films, as well as to consult on Episode VII. On October 24, 2013, Lucasfilm announced that Kasdan and Episode VII director J.J. Abrams would be taking over the film's screenwriting duties from Michael Arndt, who had worked on the project since late 2012. This marks the first Star Wars film Kasdan has written since Return of the Jedi, which was released in 1983.
Although Kasdan was announced as the writer of one of the spinoff films, very little about the film is known at this time. What is known is that Kasdan's film will center around a character who has already been seen in a Star Wars film, though the identity of the character is not known. It is also known that the film will be an origin story for whoever the character may be.
