"Someone must've told them about my little maneuver at the battle of Taanab."
―Lando Calrissian[src]

Lando Calrissian (portrayed by Billy Dee Williams) is a protagonist in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. He is rumored to be returning for Star Wars Episode VII.

Fictionally, Lando was a previous owner of the Millennium Falcon, before Han Solo won the ship in a card game. He became the administrator of Cloud City, where he was forced to betray Han, Princess Leia, and their friends to Darth Vader in order to protect his city from the Galactic Empire. After Han was frozen in carbonite and taken to Jabba the Hutt, Lando helped the others escape from the city, and later helped free Han from Jabba. After the rescue, Lando led the attack against the Death Star during the Battle of Endor, and fired the shot that destroyed the station and defeated the Empire.

Rumored involvement in upcoming filmsEdit

Star Wars Episode VIIEdit

After the announcement of Star Wars Episode VII and the rest of the sequel trilogy on October 30, 2012,[1] much attention has focused on whether the stars of the original trilogy would be returning for the new films. Most of the focus has centered on Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher, but Billy Dee Williams has also been asked whether he will return as Lando Calrissian for Episode VII. Williams has expressed interest in returning but has said that he is "in the dark with the actual plans that Disney and Lucasfilm have for the future of the 'Star Wars' universe." He would "absolutely love to reprise" the role, saying that Lando was "a character that I took great pride in creating" and he is "eager to do it again, on film, when I get the call." Williams has told fans that "the best way to ensure that [he] will be in the new films" is to tell Disney and Lucasfilm that they want to see Lando again via blogs, Facebook, and Twitter.[2]

Unlike Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo, there are no known past statements from George Lucas about what kind of role Lando could have in the sequels. What is more generally known is that the script for Episode VII is based on an original story treatment written by Lucas, and not an adaptation of any existing Expanded Universe story.[3]
