Kathleen "Kathy" Kennedy is an American film producer who currently serves as the President of Lucasfilm Ltd. In that capacity, she will be producing the Star Wars sequel trilogy and, presumably, the spinoff films. The first project she will undertake as Lucasfilm President is Star Wars Episode VII.

Prior to joining Lucasfilm, Kennedy co-founded Amblin Entertainment with Steven Spielberg and her future husband, Frank Marshall. As a producer, Kennedy produced such hit films as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, Schindler's List, the Indiana Jones series, and most recently Lincoln.

Involvement in upcoming projectsEdit

On October 30, 2012, The Walt Disney Company announced that it had acquired Lucasfilm Ltd. for $4 billion. As part of the acquisition deal, then-Lucasfilm Co-Chair Kathleen Kennedy became President of Lucasfilm. She also began to serve as the brand manager for the Star Wars franchise to "build, further integrate, and maximise the value" of Star Wars. It was further announced that Disney and Lucasfilm would be producing a Star Wars sequel trilogy, beginning with Star Wars Episode VII, with Kennedy serving as the films' executive producer.[1] It was later announced that Disney and Lucasfilm would be producing a number of spinoff films;[2] given Disney's announcement that Kennedy will executive produce the Star Wars feature films, it can be presumed that she will be the executive producer on these films as well.[1]

After the new films were announced, Kennedy approached J.J. Abrams about directing Star Wars Episode VII. Although Abrams initially said he would not direct the film, Kennedy helped him agree to take on the job,[3] and she hopes that he will return for Star Wars Episode VII and Star Wars Episode IX.[4] With Abrams came the question as to whether he would continue the infamous secrecy that surrounds his projects. When Kennedy was asked about the importance of secrecy on the new films, she said that "it's impossible to not have things end up on the Internet" so "you need to embrace that" and recognize that the fans are "important to the process and acknowledge that there are things you're gonna want to make sure they get to know."[5]

On April 20, 2013, Variety reported that Kennedy could be in the running to become CEO of The Walt Disney Company after current CEO Bob Iger steps down in 2015. However, "those inside the company say she isn't being considered, and is too valuable as a producer and brand manager of the "Star Wars" franchise for the company."[6]
