Ewan McGregor is a Scottish actor best known for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He is the second actor to portray the character in a major media production, preceeded by by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy and followed by James Arnold Taylor in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. McGregor is rumored to be returning to the franchise to play the ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Episode VII.
Outside of Star Wars, McGregor is known for his roles in films such as Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge!, Big Fish, and The Ghost Writer.
Rumored involvement in upcoming projectsEdit
Star Wars Episode VIIEdit
On August 16, 2013, Latino Review reported that sources close to the production of Star Wars Episode VII told them that McGregor would be returning to Star Wars to portray the ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Because Episode VII is set after the original trilogy, when Kenobi and the ghost was played by Sir Alec Guinness, this led to speculation that McGregor would either be made to look older, or that the ghost would appear as a younger man, much like the ghost of Anakin Skywalker in the revised version of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. For his part, McGregor said he would be willing to reprise his role, though he said he has not received an offer. He also does not know how his appearance would be reconciled with that of Alec Guinness in the original trilogy.
In addition to the Episode VII rumor, Latino Review reported that McGregor is hoping for a standalone film featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi, though whether he gets such a film is "up in the air." A standalone Obi-Wan film would presumably be set between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, during the character's exile on Tatooine.
