- "I've become more powerful than any Jedi."
- ―Count Dooku[src]
Count Dooku is one of the primary antagonists of the prequel trilogy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He was played by Christopher Lee in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars feature film; and by Corey Burton in The Clone Wars television series. The character was first introduced in Attack of the Clones and will next appear in the upcoming canon comic series Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir.
Prior to Attack of the Clones, Dooku was a Jedi whose political ideals clashed with the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic. He left the Jedi and formed the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and was secretly recruited by Chancellor Palpatine—Darth Sidious—to be his new Sith apprentice, taking on the name Darth Tyranus. Together, Sidious and Dooku engineered the Clone Wars in order to bring down the Republic and destroy the Jedi.
The character is introduced in Attack of the Clones shortly before the start of the war, as he continued to bring star systems to the Separatist cause. He fought during the Battle of Geonosis which started the war, and oversaw the war effort as the political leader of the Separatist Alliance, all while Chancellor Palpatine manipulated the entire galaxy. Unknown to Dooku, Palpatine planned to turn Anakin Skywalker to the dark side and replace Dooku. During the Battle of Coruscant, Skywalker killed Dooku and, shortly thereafter, became Darth Vader, Palpatine's new apprentice. Ultimately, however, the plot to destroy the Jedi and Republic that Dooku helped create was successfully executed. The Jedi fell, and Palpatine transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire.
