Friday, July 26, 2013 marked Day 1 of Celebration Europe II, a convention held in Essen, Germany to celebrate Star Wars fandom. Members of Wikia's German Staff are there covering the event, both for Wikia and for Fanpedia. Spinelli313 was on hand to write a report on everything she saw, as well as to take numerous photos. The following recaps were all written by Spinelli313.
Events We CoveredEdit
Designing a Galaxy: Doug Chiang and Iain McCaigEdit
Star Wars artists Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig gave very passionate and inspiring insights into their design work in the Star Wars universe. They spoke about how they began to draw and how right it felt to eventually choose to make a career out of it. Chiang mentioned that he prefers to draw robots and other mechanical things. Even when drawing humans, he imagines them to be robots because that's his approach to understand and define form and movement.
Secrets of Star Wars: The Clone WarsEdit
Supervising Director Dave Filoni talked about the beginnings of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the (pretty huge) involvement that George Lucas had in it. They originally planned to not use any of the movie characters, but Lucas didn't agree with that. Lucas liked young Jedi Ahsoka and decided that it would be good to have her as a central character, but other than that he mainly wanted to keep the known ones. During the entire production of the show, Lucas always had the last word when it came to storylines and the show's vision. There were several ideas, such as Padmé Amidala changing the entire story of the Clone Wars through political maneuvering, but what Lucas didn't fully agree with didn't make it to the screen.
Many interesting sketches of several ideas were presented to the audience. The highlight of the panel was a scene from the new "bonus content" that would have been part of Season 6 if The Clone Wars had not been canceled. The clip showed Yoda being ordered into bed rest, which he was reluctant to accept so he made a funny escape in his own very small spaceship.

The autograph area was incredibly busy. A number of Star Wars actors were there, including Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, and Ian McDiarmid, amongst many others. They signed pictures for quite a long time.
