J.J. Abrams Talks About The Force Awakens - No, Seriously

J.J. Abrams is notoriously tight-lipped about his films, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens is no exception. We still know very little about the film, and that's just the way he wants it. Which makes it all the more interesting when he does talk about The Force Awakens, which he recently did at the Visual Effects Society Awards, where he was accepting the Visionary Award.

Of course, J.J. didn't say much—we're still over ten months away from The Force Awakens, after all. Still, he talked a bit about the process used to create the film's special effects—they used practical effects wherever they could and wherever it made sense, but there will still obviously be a ton of CGI in the movie—as well as the mysterious new crossguard lightsaber. Apparently…

Oscar Isaac: Star Wars Fans Will "Be in Ecstasy" Over Episode VII

Oscar Isaac, who stars as Poe Dameron in this year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has been fielding a lot of Star Wars questions while promoting his most recent film, A Most Violent Year. In a conversation with The Huffington Post, Isaac commented on whether or not fans and non-fans alike will be happy with the film:

The last three films weren’t received with as much fervor as the first three. So is "The Force Awakens" a movie that fans of the original 1980s trilogy will be happy with?
Abso-frickin-lutely. Without question. I think particularly fans of the universe will just be in ecstasy. But I think that even people that haven’t -- there are believe it or not still people that haven't seen or are not fans. I think this will win a lot of new fa…

Below, you can see a gallery of the new characters, along with links that take you to their pages on Wookieepedia.

Oscar Isaac Gushes Over Being in The Force Awakens

You can imagine that, as a lifelong Star Wars fan, Oscar Isaac is thrilled to be playing a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Episode VII star, who we know from the teaser trailer is playing an X-wing pilot, recently talked to MTV's Josh Horowitz about how excited he is to be in the film, as well as how quick the casting process was. You can watch in the above video.

We also recently revealed new information about Isaac's role in the beginning of the film. For all of the (very little) officially confirmed information about Isaac's yet-to-be-named character, check out Wookieepedia.

Bob Iger Talks 'The Force Awakens' Title

Bob Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company, recently spoke to Trish Regan on Bloomberg TV's Street Smart about the slate of upcoming films that the Disney studios have to offer, all the way through 2020. Naturally, no conversation about Disney films would be complete without talking about the recently-named Star Wars: The Force Awakens, otherwise known as Episode VII of the Star Wars Saga. Iger took a few moments to talk about how excited he is for the film, and a bit about how the new title, The Force Awakens, came to be.

Is Endor in Episode VII?

MakingStarWars.net reported on a few photos that suggest that Endor, the home of the Ewoks that was first introduced in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, might be making a comeback in Star Wars Episode VII. Check out these photos allegedly taken around Oxfordshire, which is about an hour away from where Episode VII has been filming at Greenham Common. Check out these photos from Star Wars fan Kieran Thomas, who lives in Oxfordshire,

If this is true, it wouldn't be the first time that we've heard about Endor in Episode VII. Past rumors have indicated that the characters would be retracing their original trilogy steps, possibly to find a missing Luke Skywalker, which would bring them to planets like Hoth and the moon of Endor.

We'll find out …

Photos From Filming in Greenham

By now, you've probably seen photos of Star Wars Episode VII filming in Greenham in the United Kingdom. The biggest news we've gotten out of that so far is photos of the Millennium Falcon and a few X-wings, including a black one—which I will definitely be buying the toy of when it comes out. And so will you, so don't lie!

An intrepid fan named Rick Lawrence climbed a tree near the location shoot and was able to take a few photos, including some sort of ground-based vehicle and someone in a Rebel flight uniform. A number of the photos have been taken off of his Facebook page, where he posted them, after the photos were reported, but MakingStarWars.Net has the photos. These may contain spoilers, so be careful!

One thing I am continually struck by i…

Liam Neeson Would Love to Play Qui-Gon Jinn Again

HeyUGuys recently sat down with Liam Neeson, who is promoting his new film A Walk Among the Tombstones. Asked whether he would have any involvement in Star Wars Episode VII, Neeson said he had not been contacted, but that he would love to play Qui-Gon Jinn again if given the opportunity. Neeson previously portrayed the character in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and provided his voice for Qui-Gon's spirit in three episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

It makes sense that Neeson would not be involved in Episode VII, given that his character did not have any connection to Luke Skywalker or the main heroes of the original trilogy. Of course, we could always see him again if there were spinoff films centering on Yoda or Obi-Wan Kenobi. As we know…

Star Wars Episode VII has the seal of approval from Disney CEO Bob Iger. During an appearance on CNBC's "Closing Call" (quotes via Business Insider), Iger briefly spoke about Episode VII, how the production is currently ongoing, and how there was a brief hiatus due to Harrison Ford's injury. Iger also said that he has seen some of the footage from the film.

"The footage we've seen is very, very exciting to us. I think there's about 500 days left between now and December 18th, 2015 when the movie comes out. That doesn't seem like very long."

Iger also talked about how he knows there's "a lot of pent up demand" for the film, and that Disney is "just as excited as the fans are about it."

Harrison Ford Spotted Without Cast or Crutch

Harrison Ford appears to be recovering from his injury rather quickly, based on a new image posted by the New York Daily News. Check out the photo of Ford walking without a cane or a crutch, the latter of which he had been seen using in past photos:

The Han Solo actor, who was injured by a falling door on the set of Star Wars Episode VII, has been on hiatus from filming since his injury nearly two months ago. Rumors swirled that Ford might be out of production for six months, potentially even delaying the film's release until 2016, but this photo would suggest otherwise. I personally never put stock in those rumors—Disney and Lucasfilm were pretty definitive when it came to saying there'd be no release date change, with little wiggle room—so it'…

Lucasfilm Gives Update on Harrison Ford and Shooting Schedule

In addition to the news that Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen have joined the cast of Star Wars Episode VII, Lucasfilm has provided an update on Harrison Ford and how his broken leg will affect the Episode VII filming schedule. Here is what Lucasfilm had to say:

The Imaginarium is Involved in Star Wars

When Andy Serkis was cast in Star Wars Episode VII, it led to many questions about whether his role would be live action or motion capture. Motion capture technology is when an actual human performs a role in a studio while using certain special effects gizmos that allows animators to create a computer-generated characters on top of them. It means that the animators don't have to create a CGI character from nothing, and can use the movements, facial expressions, and overall performance of the actor in their animation. Serkis is most famous for his motion capture roles, including Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit; King Kong in the 2000s film of the same name; and Caesar the ape in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and its upcoming sequel, …

New Photos of Harrison Ford in London

The Mail Online, the web version of UK's The Daily Mail, has posted new photos of Harrison Ford in London using a brace to help him walk following his injury on the set of Star Wars Episode VII. The photos show Ford walking without the assistance of anyone else, save for the peg-like brace.

Other than a few news items, I have mostly tried to stay away from reporting on Ford's injury. There's too much uncertainty, too many rumors (some of which are clearly made up), and no official information beyond the fact that he broke his leg. That does not lend itself to worthwhile news coverage and, as we've seen over the last week or two, just causes more alarm.

I'm choosing to report on this rumor because, despite the fact that one of our favorite actors …

Harrison Ford's Publicist Confirms He Broke His Left Leg

Harrison Ford's publicist has spoken to the BBC regarding the actor's leg injury, which he sustained after a door fell on him on the set of Star Wars Episode VII. Despite previous reports that Ford had broken his ankle, the publicist confirmed that he actually broke his left leg.

"His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly," the publicist said. "He's doing well and looks forward to returning to work."

As we reported yesterday, Ford may return to work earlier than his doctors have recommended, allowing the production to film him in scenes that don't require seeing his leg. Past reports had indicated that the actor could be sidelined from the production for as many as eight weeks.

Here's hoping that he gets well soon!

Report: Harrison Ford to Miss Eight Weeks of Filming

The Hollywood Reporter is quoting a source as saying that Harrison Ford, who suffered an ankle injury on the set of Star Wars Episode VII last week, will potentially miss eight weeks of filming as a result of his injury. Lucasfilm and Disney have confirmed since last week that filming is still taking place on Episode VII, and is still expected to make its December 18, 2015 release date.

We're still awaiting official word from the production about what exactly happened and how it will affect the filming schedule. Daisy Ridley Reminds Fans That IMDb Can Be Edited by Anyone

Sorry Expanded Universe fans, but Daisy Ridley won't be playing Jaina Solo.

Recently, fans noticed that the Star Wars Episode VII IMDb page listed Ridley as playing Jaina Solo in the new film. Jaina, of course, was the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia in the now non-canon Expanded Universe. She was the only one of the three Solo children to survive throughout the many EU novels, and was beloved by EU fans. As we know from Lucasfilm, however, the Expanded Universe is no longer part of official canon, so we can be pretty sure that Jaina Solo won't be making an appearance (not to say that Ridley couldn't be a newly named daughter of Han and Leia, though).

After fans noticed the listing, Ridley herself tweeted a response, saying "the world and his wi…

Harrison Ford Sustains Ankle Injury on Episode VII Set

Harrison Ford has sustained an ankle injury on the set of Star Wars Episode VII, where he is reprising his role as Han Solo. Despite Ford's injury, filming on Episode VII will continue while the actor recovers from his injury.

Despite the total lack of confirmed information about how Ford was injured, there are already anti-Disney Star Wars fans who are commenting that it's because Ford is too old to be in the movie, or that it's a sign that Disney should let the franchise die, or a sign that Disney is ruining things. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy appear to be making good on their promise to cut down on the CGI. This set also appears to be for Tatooine.

Wedge Antilles Will Not Appear in Episode VII

Denis Lawson, who played Wedge Antilles in the original trilogy (and who is the uncle of Ewan McGregor), has confirmed that he will not be reprising his role for Star Wars Episode VII. At a screening for his new film The Machine (and as reported by Badass Digest), Lawson said "They asked me [to reprise the role] but it just would have bored me." The actor has previously said he'd only return if Wedge had a larger role.

Although a minor character in the original trilogy, Star Wars fans have always had a soft spot for Wedge. Given that the character has appeared in countless Expanded Universe stories, sometimes as a main character, many fans were eager to see him return for Episode VII. Alas, it is not to be.

Hamill, Ford, and Fisher Are in London

We're getting close, Star Wars fans!

Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher have all been spotted in London, where Star Wars Episode VII will begin filming within the next few weeks. Jedi News reported on Ford and Fisher here and here, respectively, while British actor Peter Serafinowicz tweeted a picture of himself with Mark Hamill—who was rocking a Jedi beard.

Star Wars fans may recognize Peter Serafinowicz as the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. He only had a few lines, but his voice helped bring the iconic Sith villain to life.

Now, I suppose it could be a coincidence that Hamill, Ford, and Fisher are all in London right now, but come on. We know what's up. All we need is an official announcement of their return …

CONFIRMED: New Star Wars Movies Will Not Continue the Expanded Universe Continuity

Putting to rest a year and a half of speculation and uncertainty, Lucasfilm has officially announced that the new Star Wars films, beginning with 2015's Star Wars Episode VII, will not follow the story and continuity of the Expanded Universe set after Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. This decision was made in order to give "maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience."

The post-Jedi Expanded Universe, as it stands now, will not be discarded, however. Lucasfilm has said that the creators of new Star Wars stories will continue to mine the Expanded Universe for ideas and inspiration, and that past Expanded Universe stories—including the famous Heir to the Empire by Timothy Z…
